Turn it Rare

See your options

Your item is Magic and has room to grow. There are three ways to make an item Rare. Read them before you choose.

If you need a line and don't want to hope for it, that points to the Essence. Try the Regal first, then the Essence.

  • Regal Orb

Turns a Magic item Rare, keeps its modifiers and adds one random new one.

Pick it when: Any good line will do, or you are happy to see what you get.

You give up: You don't choose the new line.

  • Essence

Turns a Magic item Rare and adds a guaranteed modifier of the kind it names, such as life.

Pick it when: You need one specific line, such as life on a body armour.

You give up: You get one guaranteed line only, and the other lines are still random.

  • Orb of Alchemy

Skips Magic. It turns a plain item Rare with four random modifiers.

Pick it when: You are not planning the item and want it Rare fast.

You give up: Nothing is guaranteed and you skip the cheap Magic steps.

This is step 3 of 5. You have a Magic item with two modifiers.

The decision

Going from Magic to Rare is the first big choice in a craft, so look at the options before you spend anything.

  • Regal Orb. Turns a Magic item Rare, keeps what it has and adds one random modifier. Use it when any good line will do.
  • Essence. Turns a Magic item Rare and adds a guaranteed modifier of the kind the Essence names, for example life from an Essence of the Body. Use it when you need one specific line.
  • Orb of Alchemy. Skips Magic: it turns a plain item Rare with four random modifiers. Use it when you are not planning the item.

One guaranteed line

As of patch 0.5 an item can carry only one guaranteed crafted modifier, so decide which line you want locked in before you use an Essence. This rule may change in a later patch.
