Patch 3.28.0 (6 March 2026, “Mirage”) is the Atlas change that still defines how you open maps. A map item is no longer “a T10 Mesa.” It is a tiered map. You pick the layout on the Atlas.
This is a summary of what actually changed — not the full notes. Full text stays on pathofexile.com.
What actually matters
- Map items are not tied to a layout. A Tier 10 Map opens whichever Atlas node you select. The Map Device remembers the last layout.
- The Atlas starts in the centre. Each corner has a Voidstone slot. Fog of war hides the rest until you reveal it — Unique Maps, bosses, and fragment content are on the Atlas too.
- Astrolabes paint a Shaped Region on a quadrant. Clear the extra content map by map; remaining maps in that region gain modifiers. Clearing the region takes you to a Memory Vault.
- Favoured Maps and old memory skills are gone. Nightmare Maps (and other special access maps) still need their own items.
- Exceptional Support Gems replaced Awakened Supports as the endgame support layer (40+ gems).
- Reliquarian is a second Scion Ascendancy. Its notables borrow from uniques and change by league.
- Keepers of the Flame / Breach is core from Act 6. Harbinger is not — Fracturing and Ancient Orbs moved into the core drop pool; several Harbinger orbs no longer work.
The Mirage league mechanic (Djinn, Varashta, the Astral Realm) ended with the league. The Atlas rules did not.
