Acolyte of Chayula: Full Ascendancy Breakdown

A deep dive into every notable on the Acolyte of Chayula Ascendancy — the Darkness resource, Chaos-conversion stacking, and the Flames of Chayula system.

Acolyte of Chayula

Identity

Acolyte of Chayula is Monk's Chaos-and-Darkness Ascendancy: it removes your Spirit reservation system entirely and replaces it with Darkness, a dedicated resource that damage is drawn from before Life or Energy Shield, then builds around converting damage to Chaos, doubling Chaos Resistance, and summoning "Flames of Chayula" companions with a choice of Life-leech, Mana-leech, or stacking Chaos-damage roles.

Notables

Small passives

Resolved 2026-08-22 via this site's own datamined tree data — this section previously said no small-passive list could be cross-confirmed; the tree data settles it directly:

  • 4% increased Skill Speed (this passive appears twice on the tree — confirmed via this site's own datamined tree data; taking both stacks the bonus)
  • 10% chance to gain Volatility on Kill
  • +7% to Chaos Resistance
  • 10% increased maximum Darkness (this passive appears twice on the tree — confirmed via this site's own datamined tree data; taking both stacks the bonus)
  • 4% of Damage gained as Extra Chaos Damage
  • 11% increased amount of Life Leeched, and 11% increased amount of Mana Leeched (combined node)
  • 11% increased Chaos Damage (this passive appears twice on the tree — confirmed via this site's own datamined tree data; taking both stacks the bonus)
  • Three mutually exclusive "Choice of Power / Choice of Mana / Choice of Life" passives, gated behind Lucid Dreaming above — whichever one you take grants 50% increased Remnant effect and 50% increased Remnant pickup range, and locks in which color Flame of Chayula (Purple/Blue/Red respectively) Waking Dream manifests.

Keystone

Acolyte of Chayula has no keystone-tier node of its own — Embrace the Darkness, despite functioning as this Ascendancy's defining, effectively-mandatory pick, is a Notable (see above), the same "no keystone-tier node" pattern found on every other Ascendancy in this project. Corrected 2026-08-22: this section previously called Embrace the Darkness "the Ascendancy's sole keystone-tier node," but this site's own datamined tree data confirms `isNotable: true, isKeystone: false` — the same mislabel class already fixed on Smith of Kitava's Smith's Masterwork and Infernalist's Pyromantic Pact.

Practical notes

  • Hollow Palm Technique is a shared passive-tree keystone (not an Ascendancy notable — it isn't granted by Acolyte of Chayula itself) that's historically been paired with this Ascendancy specifically: it lets you deal physical damage unarmed while still using Quarterstaff skills, scaling attack speed and crit off your Evasion/Energy Shield — a natural fit alongside Embrace the Darkness's ES-adjacent playstyle. Worth knowing this pairing exists, but it's a separate tree pickup, not something this Ascendancy grants on its own.
  • Because patch 0.3.0 renamed most of this Ascendancy's notables outright, any guide or tool you're cross-referencing that predates that patch will show both wrong names and wrong effects together — worth checking a source's date before trusting it on this specific Ascendancy more than most.
  • Waking Dream's Flame choice (via Lucid Dreaming) is a real build fork: Life/Mana Leech read as sustain tools, while the Purple stacking-Chaos option reads as a damage tool — decide your Flame color around what your build actually needs rather than defaulting to one.
  • Archon of Chayula is new enough (0.5.0) that build guides are still catching up — if you're planning around its exact numbers, verify in-game rather than trusting an older guide that may predate the node entirely.
