Ten maps, packs capped

A Grand Mirror now spreads the fog to exactly 10 maps. Delirium monster packs stop growing past 100% Deliriousness, though monsters still get harder.

From GGG's 0.5.5 patch notes.

The Simulacrum comes at 100%

Since 0.5.3 it appears when the fog bank reaches 100%, not when the fog first spreads. Its 7 waves run from 100% to 200%.

The scaling didn't work at all before 0.5.3.

Getting back in

With the Is this about me... or you? passive, Splinters drop in level 75 and higher maps. 300 make a Simulacrum, used on a map that's already at 100% Deliriousness.

The item is called a Simulacrum. It turns the map into the Simulacrum of Delusion.

Liquid Emotions

Delirium monsters drop them, and map bosses drop the Potent ones.

  • Jewels: one Emotion on a Rare jewel removes a random modifier and adds a guaranteed one, like a greater essence.
  • Amulets: three Emotions instill a notable passive at the bench by the Withered Willow. Their order matters, and a new instill replaces the old.
  • Potent and Ancient: Potent Emotions come from map bosses. Ancient ones need an Atlas passive and only work on Time-Lost jewels.
  • Combining: three lower Emotions make one higher at the Reforging Bench.

Free Elder Madox

The storyline starts in a map, where Elder Madox is trapped by a Delirium Mirror. Activate the mirror, survive the fog, and talk to him. That starts the quest Strange Reflection and sends you to the Withered Willow, the Delirium hub south-west of where your Atlas starts.

The maps around the Withered Willow always have Delirium, and they give Delirium Atlas points.

Walk through the Mirror

In a map, a Delirium Mirror appears near the start. Walk through it and the fog spreads out in a ring, then flows toward the map boss. A bar at the top shows how much of the map it covers and how deep you are.

If it goes wrong: The wiki says that if you stay out of the fog for more than 5 seconds, the encounter ends. Move with it.

Go deeper for more

The further you get from the mirror, the higher your Deliriousness, up to 100% in a normal map. It makes monsters hit harder and drop more. The map boss is always at 100%.

Inside the fog, Fracturing Mirrors shatter into packs as you get close, and Rares and Uniques can gain extra Delirium modifiers.

Pick up the shards

Special shards appear at set depths along the bar, and you don't know what each does until you reach it. The wiki sorts them into three families.

If it goes wrong: Some guides teach the shards by colour, but the colours they give don't agree with each other. Go by the family.

  • Escalation: An extra modifier on a Rare, a pause in the fog, or Pure monsters. Pick it when: You want a harder, richer map. The cost: Monsters get tougher.
  • Deceptive: A Delirium boss, or a portal to the Loathsome Mire. Pick it when: Your build can take a boss fight. The cost: The Mire's muck hurts, and monsters keep coming until you reach its island.
  • Capricious: An extra map boss or a guaranteed Grand Mirror. Needs the I see your true nature now! passive. Pick it when: You're pushing toward the pinnacle. The cost: A second boss at once.

Know the Loathsome Mire

The Loathsome Mire is a side area full of damaging muck. Monsters keep spawning until you reach the island and touch the offering there. It drops a Distorted or Twisted Amulet that already has two instilled notables.

Stack Delirium Tablets

A Delirium Tablet adds a Delirium Mirror to a map. Since 0.5.3 the fog's scaling was halved, and each extra Delirium Tablet scales it back up; three Tablets match the old strength.

The wiki lists a unique Tablet, Clear Skies, whose fog never dissipates.
