Now part of the Atlas

Since 0.5.5, Expedition is core in Standard and Forbidden Rites, with Tablets, Farrow and Dannig. You meet Expeditions in the campaign from Act 4 onwards.

From GGG's 0.5.5 patch notes.

The Verisium Anvil

It unlocks when you finish The Runeseeker in Act 4. After that, Farrow can live in your hideout in any league.

24 Atlas points

Each of the four leaders gives 6 Expedition Atlas points. That's enough for the whole Expedition tree.

Points come only from the Grand Expedition bosses (0.5.4).

Expedition Tablets

The more Expedition Tablets affect a map, the more Expedition it gets.

  • 1 tablet: a Kalguuran Expedition in the map.
  • 2 tablets: a Verisium Remnant, and 35% more Expedition density.
  • 3 tablets: one more Kalguuran Expedition.
  • 4 tablets: one more Verisium Remnant, and another 35% density. A fourth slot needs a City map and Industrial Improvements.
  • Density means more chests, Monster Flags and Verisium Remnants. Tablets don't work in Grand Expeditions.

Runesmithing is in Reference

Verisium Remnants, Runic Ward and Kalguuran skills belong to the Runes of Aldur system. They have their own lesson.

    Find the dig site

A Kalguuran Expedition is a burial site in your map: a detonator, markers on the ground, and Verisium Remnants around it. Since 0.5.5 you meet them in the campaign from Act 4 onwards, and in maps in every league.

The Runeseeker quest in Act 4 ends at Plunder's Point, a one-try Expedition, and then unlocks the Verisium Anvil.

    Lay the explosives

You get a set number of explosives. Each one must sit within range of the detonator or the last explosive you placed, and its green circle shows what it will dig up. Plan a chain that crosses as many markers as you can, then press the detonator.

If it goes wrong: Since 0.5.0 the next explosive waits until most monsters from the last one are dead. Rushing ahead doesn't speed the chain up.

    Read the markers

The wiki explains the markers like this. Each one is worth a different thing.

    • Triskelion banners: Buried chests. The colour shows the rarity. Pick it when: You want loot from the dig. The cost: Chests don't drop Logbooks.
    • Red double flags: Runic Monsters. The bigger the flag, the rarer the monster. Pick it when: You want Logbooks; Runic Monsters drop them. The cost: Rare Runic Monsters hit hard.
    • Verisium Remnants: Pick a rune recipe and fight waves of monsters for its reward. Pick it when: The recipe's reward is worth the fight. The cost: More runes means more waves.

    Pass runes down the chain

Each Remnant you blow up passes one of its runes to monsters dug up later in the chain, so later fights get harder and pay more. Since 0.5.4 the rune that passes on is random, and the game highlights it.

With the Buried Ambition passive, Verisium Sentries follow you and add Runic Modifiers to monsters. Since 0.5.5 several can stack on one monster.

    Collect what drops

Expeditions drop Verisium, which you spend at the Verisium Anvil, plus chest loot and Remnant rewards. Runic Monsters can drop Logbooks, the key to the rest of this storyline.

If it goes wrong: The old Expedition artifacts are gone since 0.5.0. If a guide tells you to trade artifacts with Tujen, it's out of date.

    Add more with Tablets

Expedition Tablets add Expedition to a map, and each extra Tablet adds more. One adds an Expedition. Two add a Verisium Remnant and 35% more density, meaning more chests, flags and Remnants. Three add another Expedition, and four add another Remnant and another 35%.

A fourth Tablet needs a City map and the Industrial Improvements Atlas passive.
