Now part of the Atlas

Since 0.5.5, Expedition is core in Standard and Forbidden Rites, with Tablets, Farrow and Dannig. You meet Expeditions in the campaign from Act 4 onwards.

From GGG's 0.5.5 patch notes.

The Verisium Anvil

It unlocks when you finish The Runeseeker in Act 4. After that, Farrow can live in your hideout in any league.

24 Atlas points

Each of the four leaders gives 6 Expedition Atlas points. That's enough for the whole Expedition tree.

Points come only from the Grand Expedition bosses (0.5.4).

Expedition Tablets

The more Expedition Tablets affect a map, the more Expedition it gets.

  • 1 tablet: a Kalguuran Expedition in the map.
  • 2 tablets: a Verisium Remnant, and 35% more Expedition density.
  • 3 tablets: one more Kalguuran Expedition.
  • 4 tablets: one more Verisium Remnant, and another 35% density. A fourth slot needs a City map and Industrial Improvements.
  • Density means more chests, Monster Flags and Verisium Remnants. Tablets don't work in Grand Expeditions.

Runesmithing is in Reference

Verisium Remnants, Runic Ward and Kalguuran skills belong to the Runes of Aldur system. They have their own lesson.

    Take Olroth's key

Beating Olroth gives you the Shattered Triskelion, the broken key to the pinnacle. GGG's notes say he gives you a key, and the wiki lists it as a sure drop.

One guide says it isn't guaranteed. If yours doesn't drop, tell us.

    Runeforge the Triskelion

Take the Shattered Triskelion to the Verisium Anvil and Runeforge it into The Triskelion Reforged. The recipe is free.

The Anvil unlocks when you finish The Runeseeker in Act 4. The Runes of Aldur lesson in Reference covers the rest of Runeforging.

    Sail to the Verisium Crater

Ask Makoru at the Ruins of Kingsmarch to sail you to the Verisium Crater. Clear the waves there, then slot The Triskelion Reforged to call the Aberration.

If it goes wrong: Makoru sails you there; he doesn't reforge anything. Older guides mix those two steps up.

    Beat the Aberration

timesaver describes the fight like this. It starts rooted, with a tracking eye beam and mortars, so strafe and stay off its face. Then it heals and starts moving; stand to the side or behind it. In the last phase a web covers the arena, so fight from the outer ring.

The wiki says the quest fight is level 79, repeats are 82, and you get unlimited revives.

    Know what it drops

It always drops one Starlit Ore or the Twisted Empyrean. Runeforge a Starlit Ore at the Anvil into a specific unique. Beating it completes The Grand Expedition quest.

    Run it again

Every attempt uses one Triskelion Reforged, so each repeat needs another Olroth kill. Find him again with Olroth's Saga or his Rumour, "Origin of the fall".

    Bring the right Master

Only one Master works in a map, so pick before you open this one. Three options act on Pinnacle Bosses. Hilda's Gutting and Skinning lets you scavenge them for a 5% chance at an extra unique. Doryani's Head of the Snake gives a 25% chance at an extra unique. Jado's Untold Histories raises your chance of Lineage Supports, but Pinnacle Bosses take 35% less damage.

Since 0.5.4b, Untold Histories also works on Expedition bosses. For Expedition in your maps, Hilda's Scarred Lands adds Runic Monster Markers and Rare Expedition monsters, and Jado's Eastern Knowledge can re-roll Verisium Remnants.

If it goes wrong: Head of the Snake also says Pinnacle Bosses have a single Revive, and no source explains what that means. Check it in game before you take it into a fight you care about.
