Now part of the Atlas

Since 0.5.5, Expedition is core in Standard and Forbidden Rites, with Tablets, Farrow and Dannig. You meet Expeditions in the campaign from Act 4 onwards.

From GGG's 0.5.5 patch notes.

The Verisium Anvil

It unlocks when you finish The Runeseeker in Act 4. After that, Farrow can live in your hideout in any league.

24 Atlas points

Each of the four leaders gives 6 Expedition Atlas points. That's enough for the whole Expedition tree.

Points come only from the Grand Expedition bosses (0.5.4).

Expedition Tablets

The more Expedition Tablets affect a map, the more Expedition it gets.

  • 1 tablet: a Kalguuran Expedition in the map.
  • 2 tablets: a Verisium Remnant, and 35% more Expedition density.
  • 3 tablets: one more Kalguuran Expedition.
  • 4 tablets: one more Verisium Remnant, and another 35% density. A fourth slot needs a City map and Industrial Improvements.
  • Density means more chests, Monster Flags and Verisium Remnants. Tablets don't work in Grand Expeditions.

Runesmithing is in Reference

Verisium Remnants, Runic Ward and Kalguuran skills belong to the Runes of Aldur system. They have their own lesson.

    Follow Farrow to Kingsmarch

Once you reach the endgame, Farrow points you to the Ruins of Kingsmarch, the Expedition hub south-east of where your Atlas starts. Speak to Dannig and Makoru there. Makoru gives you your first quest Logbook.

If it goes wrong: The Ruins of Kingsmarch is the endgame hub. Kingsmarch, without "Ruins", is the Act 4 town.

Reveal the ocean with a Logbook

Since 0.5.0 a Logbook doesn't open a single map. Carry one, finish a map at the edge of the ocean, then click the edge to reveal a new section of islands. Since 0.5.2 every section has at least one Grand Expedition.

    Read the Island Rumours

Before you reveal a section, up to three Rumours hint at what's inside. Each leader has its own line, such as "Stardrinker" for Uhtred, and others point to unique islands like a Remnant with ten runes.

Sagas work like Omens for Logbooks. Aldur's Saga adds special Grand Expedition modifiers, but since 0.5.5 it's only in the Runes of Aldur league.

    Run a Grand Expedition

A Grand Expedition is one big Expedition on an island: 15 explosives since 0.5.3, one or two modifiers since 0.5.4, and its own features like oil derricks and frozen bosses. Some lead into underground areas.

If it goes wrong: Tablets can't go in a Grand Expedition (0.5.5d). Save them for your normal maps.

    Keep the Logbooks coming

Grand Expeditions don't drop Logbooks, according to the wiki. Runic Monsters in your normal map Expeditions do, so the loop is: dig in maps, find Logbooks, open ocean, run Grand Expeditions.

With the Face the Past passive, the Tomb of the Fallen Knight can appear in Expeditions. Its boss, Styrn, always drops a Logbook (0.5.3).
